Adhered Brick Veneer

Use this CSI 3 part SimpleSpecs™ master specification to specify thin brick units for use as adhered veneer.

Adhered brick veneer may be used in either exterior or interior locations. It is placed over a solid substrate such as concrete, masonry, or sheathing. The brick may be secured using metal lath and setting mortar or set in thinset mortar applied directly to the substrate. A weather barrier is typically placed behind the brick to prevent moisture infiltration into the interior of the structure.

Some brick is susceptible to efflorescence, a condition in which moisture that enters the masonry is drawn to the exterior surface upon evaporation, bringing salts that exist within the masonry to the surface, where they are deposited as a white powder. Efflorescence can be easily removed using a specialty cleaner if caught early. Efflorescence tends to decrease over time as the salts decrease and shows up worse on darker surfaces.
