Easy to edit 31 63 29 Drilled Concrete Piers 3-part specification for auger cast (drilled) concrete piles for foundation use.

Auger cast grout piles are used in some locations as foundations for structures.

Auger cast piles are installed by rotating a continuously flighted hollow shaft auger into the soil. High strength cement grout is pumped under pressure through the shaft as the auger is slowly withdrawn. Reinforcing steel is also added.

An auger cast pile is both end-bearing and friction-based.

This section should be prepared based on the findings of a geotechnical report prepared by a licensed geotechnical engineer and in conjunction with the project structural engineer.

Since the final depth of piles can vary significantly this work is often specified on a unit price basis. A design depth is established for bidders to base their bids on, with the final depth used for payment purposes.
