Polished Concrete Finish

Download this free CSI 3 part SimpleSpecs™ specification to specify a polished concrete finish by Floor Seal Technology, Inc.

Polished concrete involves a multi-step process where a concrete floor is mechanically ground flat to expose the desired aggregate “class” as defined by the CPC.

This section includes options to color the surface and stencils to create a custom decorative floor.

Polished concrete involves a multi-step process where a concrete floor is mechanically ground flat to expose the desired aggregate “class” as defined by the CPC.

A penetrant hardener reacts with the concrete chemistry.  Multiple applications of the harder will ensure the surface hardening and dust-proofs the surface.

As a final finishing process, the surface is polished with resins to produce the desired gloss “level” appearance as defined by the CPC, leaving surfaces free of scratches and abrasions.

Floors are tested for image clarity value using ASTM D5767 and haze using ASTM D4039 using a meter.  Testing at a rate of three (3) tests for the first 1,000 square feet, and one additional test for every 1,000 square feet thereafter.

Protection of the floors by sealers and water repellants is recommended.  Liquids and contamination should be removed to prevent staining and degrading of the finish.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Polished concrete surfaces require daily or weekly broom cleaning to remove sand and abrasives.  This type of floor will need to be cleaned, and repolished, and resealing every 3 to 6 months.

Floor entrance mats and grills are also recommended to prevent sand and abrasives from damaging the floor surface.
