Polished Concrete Finish

Utilize this section to specify a polished concrete finish for exposed concrete floors by Floor Seal Technology, Inc. Concrete may be natural color or dyed to a specific color or colors or have stencils applied for decorative floor design.

Polished concrete involves a multi-step process where a concrete floor is mechanically ground flat to expose the desired aggregate “class” as defined by the CPC.  A penetrant chemical is known as a hardener or densifier that penetrates into the concrete and creates a chemical reaction.  The multi-coat application ensures the reaction that hardens and dust-proofs the surface.

An optional dye colorant may be added during the process to provide surface coloring or the concrete may be left in its natural gray color.  An optional stencil and other surface-applied patterns may be used to create a truly unique floor finish.

As a final finishing process, the surface is polished with resins to produce the desired gloss “level” appearance as defined by the CPC, leaving surfaces free of scratches and abrasions.

Floors should be tested for image clarity value to ASTM D5767 and haze to ASTM D4039 prior to application of water repellant sealers, at a rate of three tests per 1000 square feet of polished concrete.
