Resilient Stair Treads and Nosings (ZD)

Use this 3-part SimpleSpecs™ master specification to specify resilient stair treads and risers on construction projects.

The section includes stair treads and raisers fabricated from rubber or vinyl and installed on concrete, steel, and wood stairs.

Installation improves the aesthetics of a stair system and reduces noise from foot traffic, particularly on steel stairs, and increases slip resistance.

USAB & ADA compliance

According to the United States Access Board, stair treads in buildings shall have uniform tread depths that are 11 inches, or 280 mm, at minimum.  Treads are not permitted to have a slope steeper than 1:48.

All resilient stair treads and nosings installations must comply with Regulation 302 of the ADA Standards for Accessible Design. The regulation states that the surface of the [tread] must be firm, stable, and slip-resistant.
