Use this 3 part SimpleSpecs™ master specification to specify preformed metal wall panels and trim.
Weather barriers for use behind metal wall panels are specified in SimpleSpecs™ Section 07 28 00 – Weather Barriers.
This section includes panels formed from aluminum, galvanized steel, precoated galvanized steel, and aluminum-zinc alloy coated steel. Other materials are available for use as wall panels and can be edited into this section.
These panels are available in a wide range of profiles that vary between manufacturers. Some panels have interlocking edges where the panels are fastened in the interlock while others have simple lapped edges where the panels are face fastened. Thermally responsive panel clips allow for thermal movement and help to minimize oil canning.
As a general rule the wider the panel the higher the probability of oil canning. Intermediate ribs serve to stiffen the panels to minimize oil canning.
Panels can be placed over solid sheathing and a weather barrier where water and air infiltration are of concern, or fabricated to span between framing members, as in canopies.
