Use this 3 part SimpleSpecs™ master specification to specify glass fiber batt insulation for use in roof, ceiling, wall, and floor assemblies.
Insulation is a flexible insulation that is available in rolls or flat packing. It may be faced or unfaced and is friction fit or mechanically fastened in place.
As a general rule, do not specify faced insulation in an assembly where another vapor retarder is installed.
Applicable building codes may dictate which types of insulation can be used in certain occupancies. Some facings on batt insulation are flammable and may be prohibited. Check the applicable building code.
NFPA 285 is an assembly test that determines the fire hazard characteristics of an entire exterior assembly rather than just the insulation. All materials used in an NFPA 285 assembly must have been tested and approved for use in an NFPA rated assembly.
