Use this 3-part specification template to specify interior and exterior tiling.
Includes ceramic, porcelain, glass, and quarry tile for floors, walls, showers, and swimming pools.
The tile installation may be either thin or thickset. A thick setting is used over irregular substrates where the thick setting bed can level the tile. A thick setting is also used where slope must be built into the setting bed.
Special setting materials and methods are included for large and heavy tiles.
Epoxy adhesives and grouts are typically utilized where light chemical resistance is required, and cleaning by harsh chemicals or steam is expected, such as in commercial kitchens.
Where exposure to severe chemicals is anticipated, contact a manufacturer of setting materials for recommendations.
- A waterproof membrane is recommended where plumbing leaks could occur over occupied spaces.
- A crack isolation membrane prevents cracks and joints in the substrate from telescoping through the tile.
- Sound isolation membranes are used under tile where sound transfer to a lower floor must be reduced, such as in hotels.
Includes optional text for incorporating National Tile Contractors Association – Accredited Five-Star member of National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA).
